Thermal imaging leak detection & dampness inspections

Damp walls, ceiling stains or a suspected hidden leak? Detect A Leak uses infrared thermal imaging and moisture testing to help investigate the source.

Find out what is causing the dampness

Water can travel away from a leak before a damp patch appears. An inspection helps narrow down the affected area and guide the next step, before unnecessary opening up of walls or floors.

We provide a professional inspection service using specialist equipment. Tell us what you have noticed and we can discuss the right approach for your property.

When an inspection may help

  • Damp patches or water stains on walls and ceilings
  • Persistent moisture or peeling paint
  • A suspected leak behind bathroom tiles or wall linings
  • Unexplained wet areas around floors and fittings
  • A recurring moisture problem with an unclear source

How we investigate your leak

Thermal imaging shows surface temperature differences. These patterns can help identify areas that need closer investigation, including areas affected by moisture.

We interpret the images alongside moisture readings and other leak detection methods where needed. A thermal camera does not see through walls, and a temperature difference alone does not confirm a water leak.

  1. Discuss the problem

Tell us about the symptoms, property location and any previous investigations.

  2. Inspect and test

We assess accessible areas and use suitable thermal imaging, moisture testing and leak location methods.

  3. Understand the findings

We explain what the investigation indicates so you can plan the next step.

A hidden bathroom leak, made visible

These images from an existing Detect A Leak job show the visible wall and the corresponding thermal image. The investigation identified a concealed leaking fitting, allowing a localised repair.

Every property is different. Findings depend on the conditions, access and the type of leak.

Questions about thermal leak detection

Can thermal imaging find dampness in walls?

It can help identify temperature patterns associated with moisture. We use moisture testing and other observations to check what those patterns mean and whether further investigation is needed.

Is infrared leak detection the same as thermal imaging?

In this context, both describe using an infrared thermal camera as part of a leak investigation. The camera is one tool; the inspection also relies on the technician’s assessment and supporting tests.

Do you need to damage walls to inspect them?

Thermal imaging is non-contact and moisture checks can often be carried out on accessible surfaces. Access or further investigation may still be needed to confirm the source or carry out repairs. We can discuss this after assessing the problem.

Can you investigate any cause of dampness?

Dampness does not always come from a leaking pipe. Tell us what you have noticed so we can discuss whether our leak location and moisture investigation service is suitable. Finding the cause comes before deciding on a repair.

Where do you provide the service?

Detect A Leak services Sydney, Illawarra, Shoalhaven and the Southern Highlands. Include the property address in your enquiry so we can confirm availability for your location.

How much does an inspection cost?

The scope depends on the property, symptoms and access. Call Scott or use the enquiry form with a short description of the problem to request a quote.

Request a leak or dampness inspection

Tell us where the property is, what you have noticed and how long the problem has been happening. We will discuss the investigation and confirm availability.

For thermal imaging and moisture survey enquiries, mention the affected wall, ceiling, floor or room in your message.
