Ground Microphones

Using an electronic listening pen, the presence of a water leak can be confirmed by listening on any visible water pipe, this helps give us a starting point to begin the leak detection.

The underground pipe is then traced with an electronic pipe locator. A weak electric current is transmitted at a selected frequency through the pipe network, causing and electromagnetic field around the pipe. Using a receiver tuned to the same frequency, the pipe is plotted on the surface and the depth of the pipe as well. Once the pipehas been traced, the position of the leak is easier to locate with the ground microphone by listening from the surface for the sound of escaping water from the pipe.

Knowing where the pipe is and how deep it is also assists  us not to cause accidental damage to other underground services such as drains or electrical cables. This speeds up the leak detection process and ensures that the disruption to the water supply in minimized.

We use the GLDS-L1, PRIMAYER OMIKRON AND SEBA HL4000 ground microphones, WAGAMET LISTENING PENS to detect leaks by surface sounding and we use the RIDGID NaviTrak pipe locating systems to trace the underground services, electrcal cables, drains and water pipes so that they are not damaged during the excavation and repair.
